Over the past several years a group of community service providers and parents through the Child Development Centre and the Children First Initiative worked together to create the Prince George Persons with Special Needs Resource Directory. This directory consists of resources for children that are between the ages of birth to nineteen. The directory will assist you with finding resources for your child with special needs ranging from daycare, early intervention to transportation.
Another resource that may be helpful to you is the Resource Guide from the At Home Program. Click here to view.
This guide has been developed for Aboriginal communities interested in early childhood development and in programs that promote healthy children, families and communities. However, this guide would be helpful to any family or individual who is concerned about the growth and development of a child they know. Using clear language and a step-by-step guide, this handbook outlines the process of having a child assessed, the professionals and organizations that can help the child and the benefits of intervening early in a child's life. We would like to acknowledge the Aboriginal child and health care providers who helped develop this guide as well as the B.C. Aboriginal Child Care Society for their generous permission for the use of this guide.
