The Aboriginal subcommittee along with several community partners have developed a program welcoming aboriginal infants to our community. In traditional teachings children are a gift from the Creator and are at the center of all circles. We welcome the baby in order to create a sense of belonging and connectedness to our community. Each newborn receives a handmade fleece tie blanket and information on various programs and services offered in our community.
A project is currently underway creating a Resource Guide for Prenatal Community Kitchens. The Guide should be completed and available in the Spring 2010.
A free drop in style program to help prepare 3 year olds for preschool and kindergarten. Parents complete an Ages and Stages Questionnaire to find out how their child is developing including height, weight, vision and dental. Information on community resources and programs is also available . . . . . . because all children deserve the best possible start to the school years.
Parenting committee is working on the Community Champions project. This year a community leader in the Austin Road/Hart is working to identify a needed project . This community leader will establish a program with the help of residents, support from the Parenting committee and Children First staff.
Children First is currently working to bring together all existing plans for early childhood development in Prince George. The goal is to have one Early Childhood Development plan for this area that all agencies and organizations participate in creating. To view the latest Children First Plan.
