About Children First

a good beginning lasts a lifetime

Our vision statement:

Partnerships for Healthy Children, Happy Families, Informed Communities

Children First is committed to helping Prince George children from before pregnancy to age six and their families by:

  • raising awareness of the importance of the early years
  • building an early childhood development support system that will lead to healthier children and families.
  • bringing together parents, service providers, businesses, government, and community members to find out about the strengths and needs of their community, so we can work together to provide improved services for children and their families in Prince George.

This section will tell you about the Children First Initiative, our upcoming projects and our success stories. If you are developing a project that you would like to apply for a grant for, read about applying for a grant and previous grant recipients. Learn about asset mapping in Prince George. Of course, contact us for any other information you require.

How does Children First work?

Children First has a steering committee and six subcommittees, or working groups, that are guided by Children First, community organizations, agencies, and multidisciplinary teams.

The Subcommittees are:

  • Perinatal Subcommittee (Includes Baby Friendly Committee and Families at Risk Committee.)
  • Childcare Coalition Northern Region Subcommittee
  • Aboriginal Subcommittee
  • Parenting Subcommittee
  • Children and Youth with Special Needs and
  •  Invisible Disabilities Coalition

The Steering committee consists of the chairs from each of the subcommittees, and representatives from the Ministry of Children and Families, Northern Health, and School District #57.

Children First strives to follow the Meet Well Guidelines for all meetings.

A small honorarium is available for subcommittee participants, and financial support for child care costs while attending meetings.

Are you a parent or do you have an interest in belonging to a subcommittee?
